What % of my users are infected by Malware?
The exact number of infected users changes from website to website. Across the board, certain Geos and vectors are more infected than others, infection levels go up to as much as 35% and start from as little as 3%. No matter what the exact number is, the solution is easy, by integrating

How did they get infected?
Users are usually infected when trying to download software they’re interested in, such as video players and anti-viruses (yes, that’s right, many such attacks are hidden as anti-virus). Adware and malware is then bundled (i.e. downloaded together with) the software they received. Sometimes as many as four additional applications are “piggy backed” onto the download the user was actually seeking. In other cases, users click on an ad such as “your computer is infected” prompting them to download security software, which begins the download of malicious software.
Besides injecting ads, and creating pop ups, this type of software slows dowm users’ computers, steals their data, or even changes their home screen and default search.
Why should we be concerned about malware, if it’s not on our servers?
Ultimately, you care that your users have a good experience on your site and convert at the highest rate possible. With such issues, your site is losing tons of potential customers and revenue- and it doesn’t matter where the “source of the virus is”!! The end result is the same- you have lost that customer. So if you can help the customer while on your site, why not?
What does this malware do to a users’ experience?
1. UX- Imagine users being bombarded with pop ups and invasive scrolling banners at every turn on your website. You may have carefully curated ad placements throughout your site with your users and revenues carefully balanced, these ads will have no regard for such balance, or experience, just as many ads as possible, wherever possible. They certainly will not be approved ads and many times are ads from competitors and their ad networks!
2. Brand Safety- Some of the ads mentioned above may be entirely “legit”, as the malware providers will have somehow connected themselves to major ad networks and portray ads for cars or lifestyle products and legit products. In other cases, however, malware is a channel for ads that cannot be placed in “conventional” placements. Thus you may find that some users experience your website with inappropriate ad content such as porn or gambling, tarnishing your brand irreparably.
3. Bottom Line- Perhaps the most painful malware is the one geared at reaping the reward of your hard work. This malware will see what a user is seeking to buy: airline tickets, or clothes, and offer alternatives on competing websites. So that after you’ve placed the right ad, to the right user, and have carefully led them down the sales funnel, only to have them ultimately buy elsewhere.

How can I calculate definitively how much uplift you have created?
Besides the experience protection and brand safety PageSeal affords, in order to measure uplift, we recommend initially implementing PageSeal on 50% of your traffic across. This will allow you to create an A|B test and analyze the data.
